TCU Is On Track For Its Second Consecutive Win? by Freddie Brister..
During the 2010 Mountain West Football Conference which was held on June 27, 2010 at Red Rock Resort, Las Vegas, the announcement was made that in the media polls TCU had been predicted for a second non-stop victory during this year's football conference games.
The Frogs also filled the lineup of the MWC preseason all-conference team with 8 members in all included. In addition other distinctions were awarded to some team members with senior quarterback Andy Dalton honored as the Preseason MWC Offensive Player of the Year, junior linebacker Tank Carder given the distinction of Defensive Player of the Year and senior returner Jeremy Kerley named Special Teams Player of the Year.
Andy Dalton was previously named the 2009 MWC Offensive Player after having scored 23 touchdown passes. He also set a record for passing yards in a single season. His record was 2,756. With a total of 29 career victories to his credit, he currently is at the top of the list of the nation's active quarterbacks. In the same year Tank Carder received the title of All_MWC player while Kerley scored a record 39 punts with a total of 563 punt yards. They were among the top five teams of 2009 for scoring and offensive rushing.
DL Wayne Daniels, PK Ross Evans, OL Jake Kirkpatrick, OL Marcus Cannon and DL Cory Grant, team members all were also named preseason 2009 All-MWC players.
TCU returns seven for their defensive unit and 9 for their offensive unit this year. They were among the top five teams of 2009 for scoring and offensive rushing.
The Cougars, followed by BYU are next in the MWC preseason ratings for this year
For the 2010 games, Tanner Brock is being groomed to play starter at outside linebacker. Coach Patterson is keeping an eye on his progress. He did great last season in the special teams but whether he will do as well in this new job remains to be seen. Judging from his intense playing style, his chances are good.
The spot of Daryl Washington who has signed an NFL contract with the Arizona Cardinals is now filled by sophomore Greg Burks. Again, this choice is not without justification. Burks showed his capabilities with dead-stop hits against opposing kick returners in the 2009 games.
A talented freshman linebacker, Marcus Mallet may possibly considered for active play during this year's games. His past performance shows he needs just a bit more of experience before he can perform on par with his older team mates.
Another linebacker, Kris Gardner, is definitely looking at some action this season. The fact that he is the nephew of the Frogs' linebacker coach has served his playing technique well. In the 2009 games, everyone found out who was who among the linebackers doing 19 successful tackles on the season, 8 of which were on special teams. In that game which ended by TCU beating Colorado 44-6, he was a principal player.
TCU will presumably make extensive use of their linebackers this year as in the previous. However, they need to cover a lot of ground during training since they lost some men after last season.
